Peachtree Tip - Printing A/P 1099 Forms
It's almost time to handle various year-end tasks. One of the common ones is the need to print 1099 forms from Accounts Payable. In order to do this in January, remember to:
- Load the Payroll Tax Service Update for 2001, if not already loaded.
- Post the Cash Disbursements Journal if using batch posting.
- Verify your Peachtree company’s address, telephone number, and federal employer ID on the Maintain Company Information window.
- Verify your AP vendor setups under Maintain, Vendors. For 1099 vendors, make sure the 1099 Type field says "Independent Contractor" for 1099-Misc from vendors, or "Interest" for 1099-Interest form vendors. Then verify the vendors’ names, addresses, and Tax ID’s by printing the Vendor Master File List.
- Print the 1099 forms on blank paper.
- Make corrections to the 1099 information, if necessary. Then, if needed, enter after-the-fact vendor information so that all 1099 forms can be printed.
- Backup company data files to diskettes, tape, or zip drive.
- Reprint the 1099 forms for 2000 on the 1099 preprinted forms.
It is important to that you continue to backup your Peachtree data on a regular basis. The unexpected loss of files because of a virus, hardware failure, or mistake can be devastating. Take the time to backup on a regular basis. Always backup before any year-end, posting, or closing activity. For more information on the whys and hows of backup, see Peachtree® Backup.
In order to take full advantage of the latest Peachtree features, you should continue to upgrade as each new version comes out. Upgrades are also important in ensuring continuing support and reducing costs. Although we continue to support many older versions of Peachtree, when seeking technical help from us, it may take longer since we will need to bring up your older version on our machine.
No time to upgrade? Not a problem. We can install and check out your copy of the latest version of Peachtree on your machine for you. Order your copy from Peachtree or purchase an upgrade version from CompUSA, Office Depot, or other retailer and give us a call. In many cases, your upgrade can be completed within our 2-hour on-site call for $195. There also usually is enough time to review some of your Peachtree questions with you or help you with some of those "difficult" transactions. Note that multiple workstations and network versions require more time.

If you are using AOL, you will need to access the internet in order to use the links in this newsletter or access our website. Unlike every other service, AOL remains a separate, proprietary system that is not part of the internet. However, recent customer and government demands have forced AOL to provide access links between their system and the internet.
To access the internet from the AOL proprietary system, you must either be using version 5 of AOL's browser (earlier versions cannot directly access the internet) OR go to AOL, link to the internet, minimize your AOL browser, and then bring up and use either Microsoft's Internet Explorer or Netscape's Navigator. These are the browsers everyone else uses and both are free. You can download them from Microsoft or Netscape. If you are using any ISP except for AOL, you are already accessing the internet and should have no problems.
