Project 8 - Queuing
Due Monday February 28, 2005 prior to midnight

Answer all questions specifically in relation to the information presented in the video and as it applies to this specific organization. No theoretical answers or quotes from the book. Be clear and specific. Number your answers.

For purposes of this project, single space your answers with one blank line between questions. Prepare in Microsoft Word and e-mail as an attachment to me rkulzick@stu.edu prior to the deadline. No late papers accepted. Indicate your name on the paper. Be sure to place a subject on your e-mail and indicate in the text what specifically is attached.

As this is a part of your final exam, you are to work individually and not consult or work with anyone.

1.  Capacity design for a “typical day” is based on at least three factors. Fully explain each factor and how it impacts capacity design.

2.         A. What is “rides per capita”?

            B. Is this a good service level measure? Why or why not? Provide complete support.

            C. Suggest at least two other service level measures that would be reasonable for this company. Support why they would be appropriate measures.

3.  Disney World went through three distinct phases in terms of their approach to queues. Fully explain each separately (number 1, 2, 3), including what their queue strategy was and how successful it was in improving the customer experience.

4.  Relate the fast pass prototype at Animal Kingdom to the Deming quality cycle. Discuss each of the four stages and include fast pass examples.

5.  At least five other methods of reducing queues are mentioned. Fully discuss each separately (number 1-5). Include how specifically it impacts queues or perceptions of queues.
