Individual Report

Paper
- Must have the specific sections
listed below with separate headings for each
- Must provide copies of total paper
for all students (2 copies for professor)
- Review the latest version available
for sale (no vaporware or obsolete versions)
- Review only the software assigned
(1040 means Individual, not business)
Sections
- Name of software - include specific version reviewed
- Produced by - name, address, phone, internet address
- What does it cost? - explain
- Software systems compatibility and versions available? -
e.g., DOS, WINXP, WIN2000, WIN95/98, WIN NT, SCO, Linux, Unix, etc.
- How is data stored - e.g., is database used proprietary
or standard
- Can data be imported, exported, and backed up? How?
To/from what?
- Does the program integrate with other programs? - either
from the same company or other companies (like Microsoft)
- What does it do / how does it do it? - Be specific, list
major features, including differentiating items
- Specific security schemes and level of control features
- Be specific
- List five major advantages - versus other listed
competitors in the group
- List five major disadvantages - versus other listed
competitors in the group
- Your name & date
- At least three sources, fully and completely
referenced (see APA). Only one should be the software producer itself. At
least one must be a third party review.
Presentations
Cover the major points in the
paper.
Reading your paper is not a
presentation. Hit the important points; be clear; know your stuff; no reading.
10 minutes maximum.

- Who uses this software? – be specific
- What is its purpose? - Why would someone buy it?
- What is the general price range of this type of
software?
- What does it do? – common features of all vendors
- What level of control and security is normally included?
- Are there different varieties (such as online,
standalone, network)?
- Is it sometimes integrated with other software?
- List the individual vendors to be presented
- Names of group members and date
Presentations
Cover the major points in the
paper.
