Research Case Notes

Sources:

Wherever possible, you must use primary sources for information to be cited in your case.  Secondary sources are not acceptable.  For example, to provide documentation for a company's sales for a particular year or years, primary sources would be the company's own annual report or the company's 10-K.  Secondary sources (not acceptable) would be information from Market Guide or Hoover's.

Likewise, for industry trend information, this should come from recognized industry organizations, industry publications, the latest U.S. Industry & Trade Outlook, or perhaps financial analyst reports on the industry (not on one company).   Industry trends cited in one company's report are not reliable unless they can be backed up from unbiased sources.

SEC reports such as a 10-K are corporate author publications. The SEC is NOT the author, the company is.
Annual reports are corporate author publications also.
