FAQ
Hilton Hotels - 2000

Note that these responses are not official additions to the questions; only explanations of what is required to answer them. Be sure you read the question and understand it fully before answering.

1. A. Should I be the consumer and give step by step of how the system works when making a reservation, or should I be the firm providing the service and explain in detail the service provided and its shortfalls?

You should be the company, but need to include what you do for the customer as well as what is done within the company.

3. A. Is the entire process for procurement application or supply chain management, under the EDI systems? Seem that things like paper towels, bed linen and store groceries cannot be automatically ordered. Are these ordered manually? How should I approached this in term of listing steps and correct procedure.

Probably not all EDI. Just mention this; not necessary to detail.

For the hotels or businesses that do not use EDI what do they use in terms of reordering stock.

They would use telephone, fax, mail purchase orders, go to the Costco, etc.

3. B. I write to ask you if by adding enterprise systems as a major feature to the procurement application is ok, or is it a completely different entity that should not be added to procurement?

"Enterprise systems" is a vague theoretical term. An added application must be specific. It must clearly relate to the existing application. Do not use any theoretical, vague, academic, or textbook phrases as a new system. Be specific to this company and this application.

Overall - For Part A of #1, 2 & 3, any suggestions on how to answer this question?

You must demonstrate that you fully understand how the application functions. In order to do this, you should list in a specific step-by-step fashion (perhaps numbered or bulleted) each step in the process and how that step relates to other steps and to the input-processing-output and storage-communications IS functions. You will get no credit for just copying what the case says. Your explanation must be complete and list all the steps. Each of these questions should represent significant work on your part. Do NOT include things they are thinking of adding, only how the system functions at the date of the case.

For Part B of #1, 2 & 3, and suggestions?

You need to identify one significant additional feature (be specific) that should be added to the particular application. This needs to be something NOT currently in the application as it is explained in the case. You then need to argue why this is an important feature and why it is the one think they should add next to this application.
