- Provide superior software applications
- Support small, stand-alone applications
- Provide controller, consistent response time
- Increase applications flexibility
- Bypass IS for certain applications
- Reduce some of the hidden backlog
PCs cannot:
- Process large amounts of data
- Communicate large files quickly
- Support large transaction-based systems
- Automatically backup files
- Print large amounts of data rapidly
- Rapidly upload/download to/from larger computers
- Reduce mainframe maintenance backlogs
- Maintain large databases
This analysis refers to standalone PCs and small peer-to-peer networks, not
client/server LANs.
