Components of Decision-Support Systems

All decision support systems contain three elements:

A database, composed minimally of the data necessary for the model. In some situations, the data is extracted as needed from a larger organizational database.

A mathematical model. For example, a statistical model, a simulation, a queuing model, or linear programming formulation.

A software system that combines the appropriate data with the model to produce a result. The software model may also provide a user interface.
