CASE QUESTIONS

 

 1.    Prepare an External Factor Evaluation (EFE) matrix. Use 10 to 12 factors. No more than 60% may be opportunities or threats (balance).

2.    Prepare an Internal Factor Evaluation (IFE) matrix. Use 10 to 12 factors. No more than 60% may be strengths or weaknesses (balance).

3.    Internal/External Matrix:

A. Using the results from #1 and #2, prepare an Internal / External (IE) matrix.

B. What does the IE theory say they should do now? Explain.

4.    Porter states that there are three strategies a company can follow to create a competitive advantage.

A. Explain each of the three strategies.

B. Which of these is the company currently pursuing? Select only one and fully support your position.

C. Is this the best choice for this company at this time, or would one of the other 2 be better? Support your answer, but don't get into implementation, just address the competitive approach.

5.    Recommendation:

A. What one major strategy should they pursue now? You must be specific (not generic) and support fully.  Support for your choice being the most appropriate choice is critical.

B. You must clearly relate and justify your choice in relation to the IE theory in #3 and competitive strategy in #4. Be specific to the theory and address each theory separately.
