Hardware – Input/Output

 Any one or more input devices can be combined with any one or more output devices to create an input/output device. There are a wide variety of combinations in practice. Input/output devices are often called terminals. Some examples:

 Common / generic:

Touch-Tone phones (keypad + voice output)

VDT – Video Display Terminal (monitor + keyboard)

Printing terminal (character printer + keyboard)

Credit card authorization and transaction terminal

Specialized examples:

ATM – Automated Teller Machine

Grocery checkout POS

McDonald’s register POS
