FAQ
Video Concepts, Inc.

Note that these responses are not official additions to the questions; only explanations of what is required to answer them. Be sure you read the question and understand it fully before answering.

1. B. How should I go about supporting my definition of the market?

For each part of your definition (for example, the geographic area), explain how this is appropriate in terms of being 1) a real market from the customer's view, and 2) includes most (at least 90%) of the company's current business. Repeat for each of the other parts of the definition (at least the customer and product/service and perhaps the position in the chain or distribution method if appropriate).

2. B. can you provide additional insight into the two levels of analysis required for question 2B?

See the sample: Sample part B - CPM

4. A. In class, you suggested that students use the Competitive Profile Matrix (CPM) in place of the IFE to complete the GE Matrix. However, the CPM provides two scores, one for Video Concepts, the other for Blockbuster. How do you decide which single score to use when plotting the point on the Y axis for the GE Matrix? As this score will be used in place of the Business Strength Relative to Competition.

You can use either the IFE or the CPM for the Business Strengths on the GE. In either case the GE matrix is for the company you are analyzing, not the competition. Accordingly, you would use the one score computed for the company.
